Pregnancy, Newborn and Infants

If you're here as an expectant mum, proud father-to-be, or new mummy or daddy, CONGRATULATIONS!

You are embarking on one of the most amazing experiences in life; be it your first child, or a little brother or sister. It may seem like these times go slowly and you’ll remember them forever, but they shoot by in the blink of an eye and memories are so quickly clouded!

Some of my favourite photo shoots have been capturing the glow of pregnancy, the pride of an expectant Dad, the pure love for a new little one from parents and siblings, and the absolute tranquil beauty of new born babies. I always feel so lucky to be given the opportunity to share and capture these special, timeless moments with you.

My Studio

I prefer to do pregnancy and newborn shoots at my home, located just outside of Brackley, Northamptonshire. I’ve considered looking for an alternative location for my studio, but nothing quite beats the welcoming warmth and tranquillity of my own country home in the peaceful village of Helmdon. With soft lighting, calming music, comfortable sofas and bean bags, privacy for tending baby or changing outfits and a fully stocked kitchen – perfect for relaxing mums and babies, and creating beautiful memories at your own pace.

Portrait packages

There are four different standard packages available to choose from, but I can also provide bespoke packages tailored to your needs.

If you would like to have a chat about pregnancy or newborn shoots, please contact me and I’ll be delighted to answer any questions, discuss styles, options, prices and book you in.

“Beautiful bump” photo shoot
A photo shoot of the mother-to-be, ideally at around 34 – 36 weeks. Partners and up to three siblings are welcome to join the fun.

Shoot duration
These shoots tend to take about an hour, depending on the number of different people present, poses, outfits and props involved. Sometimes we’re done sooner, sometimes it takes a bit longer.

Package includes one picture of your choosing delivered as a small print (approx. 9″x6″).

"Big bump" photo shoot

General

"Beautiful bump" photo shoots should be booked for between 34 - 36 weeks into pregnancy.

I will arrange a convenient time with you about a week or two before the session for a pre-shoot video call (Zoom or WhatsApp if possible), or phone call. The aim is for us to get to know each other a little, find out what you’re expecting and answer any questions you may have.

Studio shoots - For pregnancy shoots, the studio is generally kept warmer than usual (accompanying adults and children might find it a little on the warm side!). I can play gentle music of your choosing in the background if you like. Water, juice, tea, coffee and biscuits are on hand for adults and children.

Home shoots – Whilst I prefer to use my studio for these types of shoot, I can bring my photographic equipment (cameras, lenses, tripods, lights, flashes, reflectors, backgrounds and stands), a plug in heater, beanbags, throws, rugs and the accessories and props detailed in the relevant section below. I will need a clear area of approx. 4 meters by 3 meters and a ceiling height of 2.5 meters to set up in; things can be made to work in smaller spaces but the results may not be as special. Travel expenses may be added to the shoot cost.

Shoot duration

I generally find about an hour is ample to get a set of lovely pictures of you and your bump. Things tend to take longer the more people involved and the more outfits you want to try on, so if we need a little more time then that’s fine. Sometimes we’ll agree that we’ve got all that we need in less time, in which case we’ll finish sooner.

Outfits and props

If you would like, we can discuss what sorts of outfits work well for late pregnancy shoots before you come. I have a selection of gauzes, scarves and throws.

Preferred styles

If you’ve a particular photo style you like, or there are photos that you’ve seen on my website or elsewhere that you’d like to use as inspiration, send me examples through and I’ll see what I can do.

Photos sessions with siblings

If you are intending to bring siblings along for the fun, I can comfortably work with up to three in the studio.

I respectfully ask you to help children understand the need for a calm room and to follow my direction during the shoot. If the shoot needs to stop due to excessive interruption or behaviour not acceptable in a photo studio, I will unfortunately need to ask you to reschedule as a parent-only shoot.

What if it’s just not working

There’s no pressure on the day, I'm relaxed and things can take their time; I’ll keep trying to get the shots you want. If you’re not comfortable, or things really aren’t working out, we will discuss stopping the shoot and trying again another day. No extra charge is made for a postponement.

If you’re trying for a second time and things still aren’t going to plan, we can discuss rescheduling again for a £15 admin fee.

If you decide you’d rather not try again, I can either refund you half the cost of the shoot, or you can choose to have the full cost kept as credit by BrightRise photography to use against another type of portrait shoot at a later date.

Newborn photo shoot
A photo shoot of mum and new baby, between 2 and 4 weeks after the birth. Partners and up to three siblings welcome to join the fun.

Shoot duration
New born shoots tend to take about 1 and a half hours depending on your and baby’s needs, and the number of people present. Sometimes things take a little longer, sometimes we’re done a little quicker.

Package includes one picture of your choosing delivered as a small print (approx. 9″x6″).

New born photo shoot - £100

A photo shoot of mum and new baby, between 2 and 4 weeks after the birth. Partners and up to three siblings welcome to join the fun. These can take place either in the studio, or at your house.

Shoot duration

General

Newborn photo shoots should be booked for between two and six weeks after birth, the closer to two weeks’ old, the better. To get really cute, relaxed, natural pictures, babies of around 2-3 weeks are the most sleepy and poseable.

I will arrange a convenient time with you about a week or two before the session for a pre-shoot video call (Zoom or WhatsApp if possible), or phone call. The aim is for us to get to know each other a little, find out what you’re expecting and answer any questions you may have.

Studio shoots - For newborn and baby shoots, the studio is kept much warmer than usual (adults might find it a little on the hot side). I will have gentle background sounds playing – either white noise or water gurgling, but these can be changed for gentle music of your choosing or silence. Water, juice, tea, coffee and biscuits are on hand for adults and siblings; you’ll need to bring along what baby needs.

Travel expenses may be added to the shoot cost.

Shoot duration

I generally find about one and a half hours is ample to get a set of lovely pictures of your little one. We will almost certainly need to pause for feeds, snuggles and nappy changes and that’s part of the fun. If we need a little longer on the day, that’s fine. Equally, if your baby is a superstar and we’ve got everything planned in less time, we may decide to finish earlier.

Outfits and props

If you would like, we can discuss what sorts of outfits work well for late pregnancy shoots before you come. We have a selection of gauzes, scarves and throws.

For the 6 month old shoot, you can dress baby in anything although I would advise against heavily patterned outfits, and if you’re going to have parents and/or siblings taking part as well, pick outfits that are complimentary in colour, again with no strong patterns or big motifs. We can discuss your thoughts before the shoot if you’d like.

General

The monthly pregnancy shoots should be booked as close to one month apart as possible to capture mum’s progress as baby grows. Generally I prefer to use my studio for these shoots due to their shorter duration, but this can be discussed. I find the best results from these sessions are obtained by using the same location, outfits and poses at each shoot to really emphasise the changes during pregnancy.

I will arrange a convenient time with you about a week or two before the first session for a pre-shoot video call (Zoom or WhatsApp if possible), or phone call. The aim is for us to get to know each other a little, find out what you’re expecting and answer any questions you may have.

Outfits and props

If you would like, I can discuss with you what sorts of outfits work well for late pregnancy shoots before you come. An outfit that can grow with you during your entire pregnancy, or can be made to move to accommodate your growing bump is ideal. I have a selection of gauzes, scarves and throws.

Preferred styles

If you’ve a particular photo style you like, or there are photos that you’ve seen on our website or elsewhere that you’d like to use as inspiration, send me examples through and I’ll see what I can do.

Due to the need to capture progress through your pregnancy at specific intervals, we will need to try again within 7 days of the original date. No extra charge is made for a postponement.

If you decide you’d rather not try again, I can either refund you half the cost of the remaining shoots, or you can choose to have the full cost kept as credit by BrightRise photography to use against another type of portrait shoot at a later date.
